Parents Record the spelling list
Spelling Success makes it super-easy to enter a spelling list.
First, you type a word, then speak into the microphone a short sentence,
then click to add that word to the list. For example, if the word was
"sand", you would type "sand". Then in the microphone, you
would say "The word is sand, there's a lot of sand at the beach; please spell sand".
This simple process is repeated for each word in your child's spelling list.
Entering a 20 word spelling list takes just minutes.
Parents Enter a "prize"
After entering the list, you would now enter a prize for your child.
This could be something simple, cheap, fun, or silly. Some examples
include choosing a video for tonight, choosing desert for dinner,
shooting hoops for 5 minutes. Be creative here, everyone loves a surprise.
Just pick something that would be motivating to your child.
Kids love the idea of a surprise
You'll tell your child that after practicing spelling, the computer will
present them with a prize. Kids we've worked with love this idea. They don't
know what it will be, but they're energized to practice. Practicing is easier
with Spelling Success also because it is the program that is gently correcting
your child. Rather than Mom continuously telling them they misspelled the word,
the program does it. And of course, there is the added allure of the prize.
